Three members of the Cedar Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will perform at Bach’s Lunch on Friday, Feb. 14.
The concert will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Wartburg Chapel. Performers include Mariko Morita, Anne Hoekstra and Randall Harlow. A free lecture will precede the performance beginning at noon in the Chapel Commons.
Morita began playing the organ at 5 and has played in many recitals in the United States, Japan and Germany. She is currently on organ faculty at the University of Northern Iowa and is the organist at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. She also serves as the accompanist for the UNI Children’s Choir.
Hoekstra is a retired clinical social worker and organist. She served as an organist and choir director at churches throughout her career and continues to sing in the choir at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Waterloo.
Harlow is an associate professor of organ and music theory at the University of Northern Iowa and organist at First Baptist Church in Waterloo. He has published three albums on the organ and is a central figure in the global hyperorgan community, advocating for the organ as an instrument for artistically confronting the challenges of our time.
The performance will include “West Side Story Medley” by Leonard Bernstein and arranged by Morita, as well as a piece by Frédéric Chopin arranged by Harlow and a piece by Mendelssohn. Participants are invited to bring their lunch or preorder a box lunch to eat at the lecture.
