Wartburg Choir 2024-25

The Wartburg Choir will perform with the Nebraska Wesleyan University Choir and Gold Standard Singers during a special concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, in the Wartburg Chapel.

The free concert is part of the Nebraska Wesleyan University 2025 Choir Tour. The NWU choir is led by Tom Trenney, a featured performer and conductor who served at Wartburg while Lee Nelson, the Wartburg Choir conductor, was on sabbatical in the fall of 2018. “Tom Trenney is one of the finest musicians and human beings I have ever had the privilege of knowing,” Nelson said. “His ability to inspire both singers and audiences through his artistry is truly remarkable. Beyond his extraordinary musical gifts, Tom’s warmth, kindness and humility create a profound sense of connection and joy wherever he goes.”

The Wartburg and Nebraska Wesleyan choirs will join for “My Heart Be Brave,” by Marques Garrett. Also an educator and conductor, Garrett will be at Wartburg later in January as the featured guest composer and conductor at the Meistersinger Honor Choir Festival.

“We are absolutely thrilled and deeply honored to host the Nebraska Wesleyan University Choir and Gold Standard Singers on our campus. Sharing a concert with these phenomenal ensembles is a highlight for us, and I know this evening will be an unforgettable celebration of music and community,” Nelson said. “There is something so powerful about joining voices across communities, and this collaboration with Tom Trenney and his choirs is a perfect example of how music can bring people together in meaningful ways. It promises to be an evening filled with exceptional music and shared inspiration.”

The NWU Choir’s program will include works from Rosephanye Powell, Abbie Betinis, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck and India Arie Simpson. The Wartburg Choir will perform works by Ily Matthew Maniano, Kim André Arnesen and F. Melius Christiansen among others. A freewill offering will be accepted during the concert.
