Taylor Runchey, a senior from Ankeny, will deliver the student address at the Wartburg College December Commencement on Sunday, Dec. 15.
Wartburg President Rebecca Ehretsman and the Senior Leadership Team chose Runchey, an elementary education major, to give remarks on behalf of the Class of 2024 at the ceremony beginning at 10:30 a.m. in Neumann Auditorium. The ceremony will be livestreamed at www.wartburg.edu/commencement.
Runchey is a Regents Scholar and will graduate summa cum laude. At Wartburg, she was a three-year starter on the women’s basketball team, which included a Final Four run in 2024; a member of Orientation Staff; and a Dance Marathon participant. She also served as president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Kappa Delta Pi education honor society.
Runchey also volunteered in child care at Crosspoint Church in Waverly and participated in Wartburg service trips to Nashville and New Orleans.
Following graduation, she will serve as a long-term substitute teacher in a sixth-grade literacy classroom at Parkview Middle School in Ankeny before applying for a full-time teaching position at an elementary or middle school for the 2025-26 school year.
She is the daughter of Lynne and Dave Runchey.
