Wartburg College recently recognized three outstanding young alumni for service to their communities.

The Young Alumni Award honors graduates from the past 15 years who are living the four pillars of the Wartburg College mission statement: leadership, service, faith, and learning.

This year’s recipients are:

Annie Fangman, a 2011 Wartburg graduate, earned her degree in biology. She works with patients who have experienced traumatic brain injuries, strokes and spinal cord injuries, among other common and rare neurological conditions. After completing her residency rotations at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Fangman became a physical therapist specializing in neurologic recovery. She currently works at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as an inpatient Supervisor.

Natalie Webb graduated from Wartburg in 2012 with a degree in community sociology. While at Wartburg, she had leadership roles in service trips, residential life, new student orientation and campus programming. Since graduating, Webb’s list of volunteer activities has grown to include Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Red Cross and work at homeless shelters. Webb now works at LifeWise StL, which helps underserved members of the community of all ages. She has spearheaded the development of a financial education program for Somali women, working with interpreters to understand Islamic financial customs and tailor the program specifically for them as one of her key initiatives.

Brooke Willson, a 2013 graduate, earned her Wartburg degree in social work. While her career began in social services, she now uses her MBA in the corporate setting, where she proposes change like paid parental leave for all. Her work with Women United has included education on the state legislative process so the group can better advocate for bills that improve women’s health outcomes.

The three honorees were presented with their awards at a banquet on campus.
