Pam Hinrichs ’64

Pam Hinrichs is known for her unselfish service to her community, whether for her alma mater, her church congregation, or the city of Waverly.

Hinrichs owned and operated the Carriage House clothing store in Waverly for more than a decade, doubling its size during her tenure. As a business owner, she became heavily involved with the Chamber of Commerce, serving on committees and helping to put on events. She is also in constant service to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church & School. Hinrichs helped organize cleanup after historic flooding in 2008, organizing volunteers and making sure everyone was fed. She continues to supervise community meals at St. Paul’s and has served on multiple boards, including the church council.

Hinrichs is an energetic supporter of St. Paul’s and Wartburg alike. She has served on the Wartburg Alumni Board, where her legendary decorating skills were used for displays in Neumann Auditorium and for dinners during Homecoming. Her husband, Lee ’64, and sons Bruce ’90 and Doug ’93 also graduated from Wartburg.

Beyond her formal volunteering, Hinrichs is known as someone who cares and will help individuals in need.

“She is a person of endless energy and has a most caring and compassionate heart,” wrote one of her nominators. “She is constantly reaching out to others, giving rides to the elderly, looking out for those who live alone, and helping to make things better.”

Other groups that have relied on Hinrichs’ leadership include P.E.O., the Boy Scouts, and Self-Help International.

“Without people like Pamela, the alumni work, the church work, or the community work doesn’t get done,” wrote another of her nominators. “She is out there in the trenches, so to speak, and never asks for a thank-you, let alone recognition.”

For her tireless service to organizations from every facet of her life, exemplifying a life of leadership and service as a spirited expression of her faith and learning, the Wartburg College Alumni Board is pleased to present Pam Hinrichs with an Alumni Citation.
