Edmond Bonjour ’83
Stillwater, Okla.

A strong sense of professional dedication and a commitment to his community define the life of Wartburg alumnus Edmond Bonjour.

Bonjour was very involved during his time as a Wartburg student, including service as a student assistant for the Department of Mathematics and as a greenhouse attendant. He was a member of the Dean’s Advisory Committee, the Residential Judicial Board, the Usher’s Club, the American Chemical Society, and Castle Singers, as well as the treasurer for Cornils House. He was named the Outstanding Senior in math and joined several honor societies.

After graduation, Bonjour earned his master’s degree in entomology from Oklahoma State University, where he continues to work as the director of the Oklahoma Agricultural Leadership Program and an associate extension specialist. His research on insects and stored grain has led to the publication of many articles and research papers, along with presentations at conferences across the world. He continues to help agricultural professionals learn more about the hazards their grains face in storage, often training fumigators and elevator workers, in addition to developing tomorrow’s agricultural leaders through international tours and rigorous programs of study.

“Edmond’s leadership is clearly a product of his faith life and his commitment to serve others and his creator,” wrote one of his nominators. “He fosters open dialogue among people from different economic, faith, and cultural backgrounds and creates opportunities for program participants to learn and practice their leadership skills.”

Bonjour has given time to numerous boards and committees at First United Methodist Church in Stillwater, where he serves as co-lay leader along with his wife, Rose. The couple owns a home-based craft business, Bonjour Creations, and sells their products at craft shows each year. Bonjour is also active with the local Kiwanis Club, the Payne County Genealogical Society, and Stillwater Woodworkers, while he formerly served on the Wesley Foundation board and on various parent-teacher associations.

“Known for impeccable integrity and a kind heart, Edmond has demonstrated himself to be a man of his word who can be trusted to fulfill any and all commitments he makes,” wrote another of his nominators.

For his professional dedication to protecting our food sources and his kind-hearted service to others, the Wartburg College Alumni Board is pleased to present Edmond Bonjour with an Alumni Citation.
