The Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery at Wartburg College will offer a new exhibition featuring work by Wartburg seniors. An opening reception will be Thursday, April 11, 7-8:30 p.m., and will include remarks from the artists and light refreshments.

The student artists, all senior graphic design majors in the fine arts program, have been enrolled in the spring senior seminar session. Working under the direction of Barbara Fedeler, they have produced bodies of work representing the culmination of their careers at Wartburg. The works incorporate design, photography, music, electronic media, art installations and other elements.

The exhibition will remain on view in the Waldemar A. Schmidt Gallery through May 26. The featured artists are:

  • Erin Buchheit Donati, who has created dynamic color-drenched illustrations inspired by music and musical artists that hold special meaning for her.
  • Katie Heaverlo, who has designed and produced a series of decals inspired by a love of travel that reflect the act of collecting mementos to commemorate our life journeys.
  • Sam Lockhart, who studies both art and music, has designed a cycle of posters for various musical concerts/performances. The compositions are informed by his interest in visual elements associated with specific historical design schools and styles.
  • Lily Meester, an artist and student-athlete, who has married her dual interests by experimenting with logo design variations for collegiate sports teams that compete with Wartburg in the American Rivers Conference.
  • Milagros Toribio Porras, a Peruvian native, who has distilled her exploration of civic planning and mapping into visual representations that analyze, reflect, compare and contrast the layouts, relative densities, incorporation of green spaces and other elements of neighborhoods in her hometown.
  • Jacy Werning, who has designed and produced a series of 12 original greeting cards that reflect her appreciation of the tradition and social interaction associated with sending and receiving cards as gestures of acknowledgement, affection, concern and connection.
  • Britta Williams, who incorporated audio of her vocal music performances into her offering by pairing these with original photographic-based illustrations she created to complement the musical pieces.

  • The Waldemar A. Schmidt Gallery is in the Bachman Fine Arts Center on the edge of the Wartburg College campus. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The gallery is open to the public and admission is free. Visitors may park without charge in the nearby F Lot.
