Wartburg College Water to Thrive and Waverly Rotary will host an Ethiopian food dinner Thursday, Nov. 2.

The free dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Wartburg College Ballrooms, though freewill donations will be accepted. Proceeds from the meal will be donated to the Waverly food bank or be used to help fund a well in Africa.

The program will focus on two areas: food insecurity in Bremer County and disease-free water in East Africa. Kelly Garcia, director of the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, as well as local leaders from the United Way and the Northeast Iowa Community Action Corp. will offer remarks during the meal.

Food will be prepared by Katar Ethiopian Restaurant in Minneapolis. The menu will include two vegetarian items, a chickpea stew called shiro and a cabbage and carrot dish; two meat items, a chicken stew called doro-wot and beef awaze; sambusa, a vegetarian appetizer; and a wheat and gluten-free injera bread.

To reserve a seat, email rescharlau@aol.com or shawn.ellerbroek@wartburg.edu by the end of day Monday, Oct. 30. Please include your phone number and the number of seats to reserve.
