St. Elizabeth Chorale 2022

St. Elizabeth Chorale 2022

Wartburg College’s St. Elizabeth Chorale will perform Sunday, April 2, in the Wartburg College Chapel.

The 2 p.m. performance will feature Rosenchor, a student-led ensemble. The concert is open to the public, and donations will be accepted.

Under the direction of Nicki Bakko Toliver, St. Elizabeth Chorale will perform songs by Abbie Betinis, René Clausen, Reena Esmail and Joan Szymko. They also will premiere “Go, Lovely Rose!” by Stephen Sturk.

“This eclectic program, for soprano and alto voices, focuses on three kinds of love – Christian, romantic and wholistic,” Toliver said.

Rosenchor, a select treble student-led vocal ensemble, will “deliver a beautifully crafted set of feminist pieces,” Toliver added.

The St. Elizabeth Chorale is a 50-voice choir that performs a variety of treble literature from different historical periods in music. The ensemble takes its name from a famous resident of the college’s namesake, the Wartburg Castle in Eisenach, Germany. Elizabeth lived at the castle as the wife of a Thuringian landgrave. She left the castle after her husband’s death and became Germany’s first female Franciscan.
