Symphonic Band

The Wartburg College Symphonic Band will perform Friday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m., in Neumann Auditorium. The band will be joined by members of the George Washington Carver Academy Eighth-Grade Band.

The 68-member Symphonic Band will perform “I’m 17 Come Sunday” by Percy Grainger, “For Heaven and the Future” by Samuel Hazo and “The Girl with the Flaxen Hair,” which will feature a saxophone solo by Jamie Harrings, a 2016 Wartburg College graduate and the GWCA band conductor.

The George Washington Carver band will perform “As Winds Dance” by Hazo, “The Tempest” by Robert W. Smith and for the “Star Wars Main Theme/Imperial March.” The two bands will combine for theme song from “The Incredibles.”

“The GWCA eighth-grade band is excited to work with the Wartburg College Symphonic Band. Students are excited to meet and work with college students, not to mention eat dinner on campus,” Harrings said. “We have worked hard on the music we will be performing at the concert and can’t wait to play “The Incredibles’ with the Symphonic Band. We are thankful that Dr. Muntefering has asked us to join the college and have learned much through the process of preparing for this concert.”

Linda Moeller will serve as the announcer for the concert.
