“Sound the Trumpets!,” featuring master trumpeters Vince DiMartino and John Foster, will headline the Wartburg College Trumpet Festival finale concert on Nov. 8.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. in the Wartburg Chapel. The Wartburg Trumpet Choir, under the direction of Scott Muntefering, Wartburg’s Eugene and Ruth Weidler Drape Distinguished Professor in Music Education, will perform “Fanfare on America the Beautiful” before DiMartino, Foster and pianist Robert Jeter take the stage for “Sound the Trumpets!”

The High School Festival Choir, also led by Muntefering, will play “Seven Renaissance Intradas” during the intermission.

“Sound the Trumpets!” takes the audience on a lightning-speed and sometimes humorous journey through the musical history of one of the most vibrant and recognizable instruments: the trumpet. The program features works that prominently feature the trumpet and a variety of instruments all belonging to the trumpet family, including the conch shell, didgeridoo, bugle and cornopean.

DiMartino most recently served as the distinguished artist-in-residence at Centre College in Danville, Ky., where he taught trumpet, brass and jazz ensembles. He also has been the lead and solo trumpet in the Lionel Hampton Band, the Chuck Mangione Band, the Clark Terry Band and the Eastman Arrangers’ Holiday Orchestra.

Foster is the artistic director of the renowned Australian Baroque Brass and Queensland Baroque ensembles. He has been a member of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and appeared as a soloist at festivals and concert series worldwide.

More than 10 high schools from across Iowa will participate in the one-day festival founded by Muntefering.
