Wartburg College has been awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities grant in the organization’s most recent round of funding.
The two-phase grant, valued at $165,276, will allow the college to create an online catalog of the more than 28,000 audiovisual items in the Archives of Iowa Broadcasting, which is owned by and housed at the college. During the second phase of the project, the college will digitize more than 2,200 news broadcasts from KWWL-TV and add them to the catalog for online media access. The grant will run from May 2018 to April 2020.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for the archives to make its collections more accessible to the public. I am very excited to begin work on this project,” said Amy Moorman, the college’s archivist.
This is the second NEH grant the college has received in the last six months. In December, the college received a $6,000 grant to purchase equipment and supplies to stabilize select film materials prior to cataloging.
NEH Humanities Collections and Reference Resources Grants allow institutions to preserve and provide access to collections essential to scholarship, education and public programming in the humanities. In this round, 41 grants were awarded for a total of $7.5 million.
