Chad Winterfeldt

Chad Winterfeldt, cantor of Christ Chapel at Gustavus Adolphus College, will be the featured organist at Wartburg College’s Bach’s Lunch organ recital series Friday, Feb. 9.

The concert will begin at 12:30 p.m. in Wartburg Chapel. It will be preceded by a noon lunch and conversation with Winterfeldt in the Chapel Commons. All of Winterfeldt’s selections were composed by women. Pieces will include “Prelude in F Major” by Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel and excerpts from “Twelve Choral Preludes on Gregorian Themes, Op. 8” by Jeanne Demessieux. The concert also will feature three chorales from Martin Luther: “Ein Feste Burg,” “Variations on Erhalt Uns, Herr” and “Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland,” also composed by women.

Winterfeldt earned degrees in organ performance from the University of Nebraska, Yale University and Concordia College in Moorhead. In addition to his role at Christ Chapel, Winterfeldt also teaches courses in church music and music theory and history. He maintains an active organ studio and directs three handbell ensembles. Winterfeldt is the 2015 recipient of the Swenson-Bunn Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence.

Bach’s Lunch attendees are invited to bring a lunch or order one from Wartburg’s Den-Rittersaal by the Wednesday prior to the performance by contacting Marcia Haugen, music department office coordinator, at marcia.haugen@wartburg.edu or 352-8300.

The series will continue March 16 and April 13.
