An exhibit featuring Iowa City artists Lauren Frances Evans and Stephen W. Evans will kick off the 2016-17 season at Wartburg College’s Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery.
“Thin Spaces” will run Friday, Sept. 9, through Friday, Oct. 21. An opening reception featuring both artists will be Friday, Sept. 30, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Both artists are prompted by a void of longing and a crux of simultaneity, the point at which both joining and separation occur. While Lauren tends to take a more macro approach, turning to the forms of the body and evocations of the flesh as microcosm and metaphor, Stephen considers this very same concept but through a wider cosmological lens.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. The gallery, in Bachman Fine Arts Center, is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
