The science and engineering behind missions in space will be the focus of the February Keep on Learning community education series beginning Thursday, Feb. 4, at Wartburg College.

Charles Figura, professor of physics and astronomy, will lead “Letters Home: Exploration of the Solar System,” which will investigate various explorations of the solar system.

“It's not the little bits and pieces of what we actually learn about these places,” Figura said. “It's the sense of wonder, the sense of excitement about learning about these places. Exploration seems to be such an intrinsic part of the human condition, curiosity about the unknown.”

Classes continue Feb. 11, 18 and 25 in the Heritage Room of Saemann Student Center. Coffee will be served at 9 a.m., followed by the class from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Parking is available near the student center for those entering campus by Wartburg Boulevard.

Registration is not required. The first class of each session is free; a $30 fee due at the second class covers the remainder of the session.

The Keep on Learning series is sponsored by Waverly Health Center. The Wartburg Alumni & Parent Relations Office coordinates Keep on Learning with the assistance of a volunteer committee. For more information, call 319-352-8491, email alumni@wartburg.edu or visit www.wartburg.edu/kol.
