The Wartburg College Symphonic Band will perform its fall concert Saturday, Nov. 7, at 4 p.m., in Neumann Auditorium.

The band, under the direction of Scott Muntefering, will perform “Burn” by Roland Barrett, “Always United, Forever Strong” by Brian Balmages and “Our Yesterdays Lengthen Like Shadows” by Samuel Hazo.

Guest conductor Bruce Ammann, professor of music at Augustana (South Dakota) College, will lead the band in “English Folk Song Suite” by Ralph Vaughn Williams. Ammann recently retired as director of the Augustana Band. He has directed all-state bands in Minnesota, Arizona, Colorado and Rhode Island and presented at clinics and conferences across the U.S.

Ammann’s appearance is made possible through the Eugene and Ruth Weidler Drape Distinguished Professorship. He will hold an open rehearsal with the Symphonic Band Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m., in Neumann Auditorium.

Cory McBride, Oelwein High School band director, composed the Symphonic Band’s final piece, “Perilous Voyage,” at just 15 years old. He will attend the concert.

The concert is free and open to the public.
