The Wartburg Choir will perform Friday, March 27, in Manchester. The 7:30 p.m. concert at West Delaware High School also will feature the high school’s choir, conducted by Duane Philgreen.

The internationally acclaimed Wartburg Choir—the Waverly college’s largest vocal ensemble—includes West Delaware High School graduates Hannah Crumpton, Ally Diercksen, Ben Engelken, Myles Finn, Teri Mueller and Haley Rudd. Conductor Lee Nelson, director of choral activities, has directed all-state and honor clinics throughout North America, including the 2014 Iowa All-State Choir.

The program, “SpiritSong,” features selections from the choir’s four-state regional tour in April. Highlights include a Bach motet, movements of Rachmaninoff’s “All-Night Vigil,” world premieres of two René Clausen compositions and a new setting of “Ezekiel Saw da Wheel” by Stacey V. Gibbs.

“In essence, ‘SpiritSong’ is an exploration of the various ways in which humans encounter the Spirit in their lives,” Nelson said. “Whether you interpret ‘Spirit’ to represent the human spirit or the Holy Spirit, the word elicits thoughts of mystery and wonder, which is at the very heart of this concert program.”

A donation will be taken to support Wartburg student scholarships and music tours.
