The Wartburg Choir will perform Saturday, March 28, at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. The 7:30 p.m. concert features selections from the choir’s four-state regional tour in April.

The internationally acclaimed Wartburg Choir—the Waverly college’s largest vocal ensemble—includes Alison Brown, Madelyn Carlson, Wes Carlson and Noah Dwyer of Cedar Rapids; Drew Vitale of Hiawatha; and Hannah Grimm, Emily Musil and Elissa Musil of Ely.

Highlights of the program, “Spirit Song,” include a Bach motet, movements of Rachmaninoff’s “All-Night Vigil,” world premieres of two René Clausen compositions and a new setting of “Ezekiel Saw da Wheel” by Stacey V. Gibbs.

“In essence, ‘SpiritSong’ is an exploration of the various ways in which humans encounter the Spirit in their lives,” said director Lee Nelson. “Whether you interpret ‘Spirit’ to represent the human spirit or the Holy Spirit, the word elicits thoughts of mystery and wonder, which is at the very heart of this concert program.”

Nelson, director of choral activities, has conducted all-state and honor clinics throughout North America, including the 2014 Iowa All-State Choir.

A donation will be taken to support Wartburg student scholarships and music tours.
