Cedar Falls native Master Sgt. Susan Rider will perform with the Wartburg College Symphonic Band Saturday, March 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly.

The free concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

Rider will perform “Concert Etude” by Alexander Goedicke and “Bugler’s Holiday” by Leroy Anderson. Scott Muntefering, Wartburg music professor and director of the Symphonic Band, and senior Joe Amsberry, a Waverly-Shell Rock High School graduate, will join Rider for “Bugler’s Holiday.”

“The students have worked hard all year, and this is an opportunity to share the stage with an international trumpet soloist, perform a wide range of music for members of our community and raise donations for those in need,” Muntefering said.

Rider, a trumpeter with “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, graduated from Northern University High School in 1985 and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1989. She also earned graduate degrees from Indiana University.

She has performed with the Midland-Odessa Symphony & Chorale in Texas, Owensboro Symphony Orchestra in Kentucky and Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and Columbus Indiana Philharmonic in Indiana. Rider taught studio trumpet in Odessa and at Purdue University and was an associate instructor at Indiana University.

Rider also will be a guest performer and clinician at the fifth annual Wartburg Trumpet Festival, March 12-13.
