Wartburg College students will honor civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. with service projects and special events during MLK Week, Jan. 18-23.

 

Fifteen service projects are planned for Monday, Jan. 19, ranging from work with the Boy Scouts of America to volunteer projects at the Grout Museum as well as service mainstays like Habitat for Humanity and the Catholic Worker House.

 

A new diversity activities fair will highlight student groups and community organizations focusing on diversity Tuesday, Jan. 20, 5-7 p.m., in the St. Elizabeth and Heritage rooms in Saemann Student Center.

 

A diversity dialogue, “Injustice Anywhere is a Threat to Justice Everywhere,” will be Thursday, Jan. 22, 11:30 a.m., in McCaskey Lyceum in the student center.

 

Other events include:

·       A showing of “Freedom Writers,” the movie about a young teacher who inspires at-risk students to learn tolerance and pursue education beyond high school, Sunday, Jan. 18, 7 p.m., McCaskey Lyceum, no charge.

·       The Rev. Anthony Scott, a 2010 graduate and associate pastor of Christian education at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Freeburg, Illinois, speaking at MLK Chapel, Wednesday, Jan. 21, 10:15 a.m., Wartburg Chapel.

·       MLK Eucharist, Wednesday, Jan. 21, 9:30 p.m., Wartburg Chapel.
