Wartburg College has received a $2 million challenge grant gift to entice support for a planned renovation of Clinton Hall.

Michael and Marge McCoy, of Ellison Bay, Wisconsin, established the McCoy Match as part of the college’s comprehensive $75 million Transforming Tomorrow campaign.

“Both of our kids, when they were at Wartburg, lived in Clinton Hall. Our son (Matthew) graduated in ’93 and our daughter (Michele) in ’97, and I thought at that time Clinton Hall needed to have a remake,” Marge McCoy said. “It is time to get that building up to par with what those kids should have for living arrangements now and even into the future.”

Michael McCoy, former executive vice president and chief financial officer at Hormel Foods Corporation, has filled leadership roles on the Board of Regents, the President’s Advisory Council, and as national chair for Commission on Mission, the college’s strategic planning initiative. The McCoys are co-chairs of the Transforming Tomorrow Campaign and also have served on the Parents’ Advisory Committee.

The $8 million Clinton Hall project includes major interior updates and a new addition and will:

  • Provide new windows, a new roof and an accessible entrance.
  • Update interior spaces with new plumbing, heating, air conditioning and electrical systems; expanded and updated restroom/shower facilities; doors, wall finishes and flooring; and furniture throughout.
  • Create new lounge, office and program/activity areas to support classes, studying and social interaction
  • Provide space for faculty members who will collaborate with Student Life staff to develop first-year living and learning communities.

The college already has secured $2 million for the project. The McCoy Match, which must be completed in the next year, would bring that total to $6 million.
