Three Wartburg College alumni will be honored during their alma mater’s homecoming Sunday, Oct. 19. The Wartburg College Alumni Board will bestow Alumni Citations to Susan Bahe, Kathryn Pohlmann Duffy and the Rev. Lawrence Wick.

Bahe has taught grades 7-12 science in Lakota, North Dakota, since graduating in 1982. She launched a Students Against Destructive Decisions chapter, coached and officiated volleyball, and volunteered at faith-based camps for youth and mentally handicapped adults. At her church, Bahe started two music groups and directs the choir.

Pohlmann Duffy is director of choral activities at Grand View University in Des Moines, where she has revitalized the music program. In addition to conducting the Grand View Choir, the 1979 Wartburg graduate teaches music courses and directs Julefest, the university’s annual Advent and Christmas program. She has won Grand View’s outstanding faculty award and participated in the Lutheran Academy of Scholars at Harvard University.

Wick earned master’s and doctoral degrees after graduating from Wartburg in 1961, and furthered his education with sabbaticals to Princeton Theological Seminary and Oxford, England. He served nine congregations during a career of more than four decades in ministry. The Chicago resident volunteered for many Evangelical Lutheran Church in America positions and served as president of the Wartburg Alumni Board.

Citation recipients will be recognized during a luncheon at 11:45 a.m. in Knights Ballroom of the Saemann Student Center. Nominees for the annual award are reviewed based on their personal and professional application of the college’s mission statement pillars: leadership, service, faith and learning
