Karen Black, Wartburg College professor of music, will be the guest artist at Wartburg College’s “Bach’s Lunch” organ series Friday, Sept. 12.

Black’s performance at 12:30 p.m. in the Wartburg Chapel will be preceded by a noon lunch and explanation of the program in Chapel Commons.

Black, also organist at the Wartburg Chapel and director of the St. Elizabeth Chorale, will perform selections by Dietrich Buxtehude, Francois Couperin, Girolamo Frescobaldi and J.S. Bach.

Along with her positions at Wartburg College, Black is an active member of the American Guild of Organists, the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians and the Organ Historical Society.

Her prior positions include assistant organist at Trinity Episcopal Church in Indianapolis, director of music at Church of the Annunciation in Minneapolis and director of music and organist at Zion Lutheran Church in Hopkins, Minnesota.

She earned a Bachelor of Music degree in church music from St. Olaf College, Master of Music degree in organ and church music from Indiana University and holds a doctorate in organ performance and literature from Indiana University.

“Bach’s Lunch” attendees are invited to bring a lunch. The event is sponsored by the Wartburg College Department of Music.
