Stephanie Mendez, a Wartburg College graduate and anti-sex-trafficking advocate, will host a screening of the documentary “Nefarious: Merchant of Souls” Thursday, Sept. 11, on the Wartburg College campus.

The free event will begin at 8 p.m. in Whitehouse Business Center Room 214. She will lead a discussion about sex trafficking following the documentary.

Mendez, a 2004 graduate, is the European director for Men Against the Trafficking of Others (MATTOO), an international organization empowering men and boys to stop the trade. She also works with Cinderella House, an organization providing housing for women coming out of prostitution near her home in Malaga, Spain.

Each year more than 27 million people worldwide are transported illegally for the purpose of prostitution or forced labor. “Nefarious: Merchant of Souls” tells the story by interviewing victims and traffickers, as well as providing expert analysis from humanitarian leaders.

Wartburg College Spiritual Life & Campus Ministry, Residential Life, and the Spanish Department are sponsoring the program.
