For the first time, Wartburg College is getting into the fun of the Iowa State Fair.

The college will make its debut at the storied celebration, Aug. 7-17, in Des Moines. College staff, students and alumni volunteers will greet visitors 9 a.m.-9 p.m. daily at a booth in the Varied Industries Building. Adults can grab a Wartburg bag, while bracelets will be given to children.

Wartburg Day at the State Fair is Monday, Aug. 11, with the Wartburg community invited to wear Knights gear and take part in special events. Author Kurt Ullrich, a 1974 Wartburg graduate, will sign copies of The Iowa State Fair from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. at the Blue Ribbon Foundation building on Grand Avenue.

Wartburg will take over the Farm Bureau Shelter near Pella Plaza 4-8 p.m. that evening with games, raffle prizes, free malts and photos with college mascot Sir Victor. Wartburg students will provide musical entertainment at 4:30, 5:50 and 6:30 p.m.

“We look forward to seeing many alumni, parents and friends of the college,” said Renee Voves, director of alumni and parent relations and annual giving. “The State Fair is a great Iowa tradition, and Wartburg is thrilled to be a part of the excitement. We can’t wait to show everyone why Wartburg is the ‘Finest in the East or West.’”
