“Transcendent” organist Catherine Rodland will be the guest artist at Bach’s Lunch at Wartburg College Friday, March 7.

The performance by the artist-in-residence at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., called “transcendent” by The American Organist, will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Wartburg Chapel preceded by a noon lunch and explanation of the program in the Chapel Commons.

She will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Prelude in Eb. BWV 552.1,” “Kyrie, Gott Vater in Ewigkeit BWV 669,” “Christe, aller Welt trost BWV 670,” and “Kyrie, Gott Heilger Geist BWV 671.”

After graduating cum laude with distinction in organ performance from St. Olaf in 1987, Rodland earned master and doctoral degrees at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y., receiving the prestigious Performer’s Certificate and Ann Anway Award for excellence in organ performance.

Rodland is a prizewinner in the American Guild of Organists Young Artists Competition, the Calgary International Organ Competition and the International Organ Competition at the University of Michigan. She has been frequently featured on National Public Radio’s “Pipedreams.”

Attendees are invited to bring a lunch or order one from Wartburg’s Den-Rittersaal by Wednesday prior to the performance by contacting Marcia Haugen, music department office coordinator, at marcia.haugen@wartburg.edu or 352-8300.
