A Dr. Seuss-inspired story of chemistry and physics will unfold on the Wartburg College campus Saturday, March 1.

The Wartburg Chemistry Club, Engineering Science Club and Society of Physics Students will host the seventh annual Physics and Chemistry Demonstration Show in McCaskey Lyceum at 6 p.m.

Featured demonstrations will include the minus-341degree Fahrenheit world of liquid nitrogen, a look at the three key ingredients of combustion using exploding balloons and a fire extinguisher sled race across the stage to display the principle of conservation of momentum.

Hands-on activities will be available in the McCoy rooms in Saemann Student Center for 30 minutes before and after the demonstration. Guests will experience scientific principles such as the conservation of angular momentum and static electricity.

Liquid nitrogen cookies will be available as a post-show treat.

Faculty organizers are Dr. Benjamin Bousquet, associate professor of physics; Dr. Charles Figura, professor of physics; Dr. Christine DeVries, assistant professor of chemistry; and Dr. LeAnn Faidley, assistant professor of engineering science.
