Wartburg College student media have won 23 Iowa College Media Association awards.

Wartburg’s student media competed with their counterparts from 14 other Iowa colleges and universities at the ICMA meeting held in conjunction with the Iowa Newspaper Association conference Feb. 6 in Des Moines.

Wartburg took honors in the following categories:

TELEVISION — Wartburg Television

  • Best Newscast, first and third place — WTVstaff.
  • Best Storytelling package, first place — Ben Hoppenworth, Waterloo, 2013 graduate; third place — Shelby Granath, Rockford, Ill., 2013 graduate; honorable mention — Danny Housholder, West Des Moines, senior.
  • Best Sportscasting, second place — Knight Vision staff.
  • Short Documentary, first place — Granath; Brandon Hosch, Epworth, 2013 graduate; Samantha Meier, Durant, senior; Emily Novotny, Ridgeway, senior; and Mackenzie Compton, Durant, December 2013 graduate.
  • Best Promo, Commercial or PSA, second place — Nichole Lyons, Waukon, sophomore.
  • Best Corporate Video, second place — Bethany McAtee, Reel Orange Productions, Coggon, senior.
  • Best Short Film, first place — “Chasing Neptune,” Reel Orange Productions.
  • Best Variety, Music and Comedy, first place — The Outlet featuring Ted Leuck, Orion, Ill., senior; Holly Hejlik, Rockwell, junior.

MULTIMEDIA — The Circuit

  • Best Online Video, second place — Caitlin Harbach, Delhi, senior; Elizabeth Jewitt, Lake Heights, Ill., sophomore; Carleigh Swanson, Eagen, Minn., freshman; Nathan Ford, Grinnell, junior.
  • Best Original Content, third place — Kristin Canning, Lisbon, senior; Zach Schulz, Independence, sophomore; Ashley Davis, Columbus Junction, junior, Lyons.
  • Best Use of Social Media, third place — Ford.
  • Best Online Edition, second place — Ford.

NEWSPAPER — The Trumpet

  • Best Headline, third place — Jeanne Edson, Nashua, sophomore.
  • Best Review, third place — Sibusiso Kunene, Swaziland, senior.
  • Best Feature Photo, honorable mention — Canning.
  • Best Photographic Portfolio, honorable mention — Canning.
  • Best Infographic, honorable mention — Kunene.

RADIO — KWAR-FM Radio (89.9)

  • Best Entertainment Show, second place — Tristan Gardner, Milo, 2013 graduate.
  • Best Station Promotion, second and third place — KWAR staff.

The Wartburg student media outlets are advised by communication arts professors Cliff Brockman, Travis Bockenstedt and Pamela Ohrt, who also is executive director of the ICMA.
