Wartburg College will hold a Hymn Festival and Church Musician Workshop Feb. 28-March 1.

The Hymn Festival will be Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Wartburg Chapel. Daniel Schwandt, cantor at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, will lead the Wartburg College Kantorei and area church choirs. It is open to the public with a free-will donation accepted.

”A Hymn Festival is a chance to explore the breadth of creative possibilities in church music,” said Dr. Karen Black, professor of music.

The festival also will feature commentary by the Rev. Paul Hoffman, a former pastor in Seattle and author of “Faith Forming Faith and Faith Shaping Ministry.”

The workshops on Saturday for pastors and church musicians will feature Hoffman and Schwandt addressing the changing culture in the church, the need for renewal among church leaders and injecting new vitality into the church, and the “mystery of transfiguration.”

The workshops will be in the chapel and Bachman Fine Arts Center, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Registration is $65 and includes lunch. Register online at https://www.wartburg.edu/churchrelations/workshop.aspx  or contact Black, at 319-352-8275 or karen.black@wartburg.edu.

The Wartburg music department, church relations and the Cedar Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists are sponsoring the event.
