Iowa Public Television will rebroadcast the Christmas with Wartburg 2011 concert celebrating the holiday around the world.

The 64th annual concert, “Savior of the Nations, Come,” was based on the well-known hymn translated by Martin Luther and combined traditional works from other cultures —including carols sung in German, French, Norwegian and Spanish — with new pieces from Africa, Haiti and South America.

The one-hour production will air at the following times on the primary IPTV stations:

  • Dec. 9 at 9 p.m.
  • Dec. 12 at 11 p.m.
  • Dec. 22 at 5:30 p.m.

Performing groups include the Wartburg Choir, Wartburg Wind Ensemble, the Castle Singers vocal jazz ensemble, the St. Elizabeth Chorale women’s choir and the Ritterchor men’s choir.

World-renowned bass-baritone Simon Estes, Wartburg distinguished professor of music and artist in residence, sang a solo and a piece with the combined choirs.

The broadcast was made possible by a generous donation from the Sukup Family Foundation and Eugene and Mary Sukup of Sheffield. A DVD/CD set of the concert is available at www.wartburg.edu/christmas/recordings/.
