Six Wartburg College students, faculty, staff and supporters have been honored for their commitment to service as part of the annual St. Elizabeth Week celebration.

The St. Elizabeth Award for Service recognizes students with a record of service and a desire to live a life that embodies the Wartburg College mission statement. This year’s recipients are seniors Jenna Manders, Kelli Miller and Ieshia Brown.

Manders, a business administration and sociology major from Dubuque, is Service Trip president and Dance Marathon executive member. She also works for the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa.

Miller, a sociology, communication design and art major from Mount Pleasant, volunteers at Hospitality House, is chair of the St. Elizabeth Week committee and student director of the Volunteer Action Center. She also mentors five first-year students and participated in Discovering Opportunities for Outreach and Reflection, a faith-based network of service-learning programs.

Brown, a social work major from Marion, is part of the Black Student Union, a Pathways Peer Helper, and volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club and Holiday Shoppe. She also works with the High School Leadership Institute.

The Rev. Ramona Bouzard and Dr. Jennifer McBride received the Pastor Larry Trachte Award for Service. Trachte served Wartburg as a campus pastor and assistant professor of religion for 35 years. The award recognizes faculty and staff who embody Trachte’s enthusiasm, support, involvement and commitment to Wartburg’s mission of service.

Bouzard is dean of the Wartburg Chapel and Moehlmann Chaplaincy Chair. McBride is an assistant professor of religion and the Board of Regents Chair in Ethics.

Sister Marge Clifford of East St. Louis, Ill., also was honored for her work in that impoverished community. Wartburg students travel to the East St. Louis area each year for service trip work. Clifford is the director of advancement at the Sister Thea Bowman Catholic School and runs Hubbard House, a shelter for volunteer workers.
