Three Wartburg athletic teams will participate in NCAA Division III postseason competition this weekend.

The Wartburg football team (8-2), which claimed the Iowa Conference championship last Saturday with a 59-3 blowout of Loras College, travels to Bloomington, Ill., Saturday, Nov. 23, for a noon game against Illinois Wesleyan (9-1, No. 14 nationally), runner-up in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

Illinois Wesleyan is seeded No. 4 in the bracket, while the Knights are No. 5. They have a common opponent in Carthage College, which Wartburg defeated, 27-10, and Illinois Wesleyan beat, 31-10.

The winner would play the victor of the game between No. 1-seed Bethel University of St. Paul (10-0, No. 6 nationally) and No. 8-seed College of St. Scholastica of Duluth (9-1), with the highest-seeded winner hosting the Nov. 30 game.

The No. 3-ranked Wartburg women’s cross country team — the 2012 national runners-up — will compete for the national title Saturday at 10 a.m. (CT) in Hanover, Ind. The women, who defended their Central Region championship last weekend, are ranked behind Johns Hopkins (Md.) University, which is seeking a repeat title, and Middlebury (Vt.) College.

The men’s soccer team (18-4-2) will be at the Rock Bowl at Loras College in Dubuque to meet Trinity University (20-2-1), the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference champions from San Antonio, Texas, Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

The winner will play Sunday against the victor of the Westminster College-Loras match. Westminster (13-8-1) from Fulton, Mo., won the St. Louis Intercollegiate Conference tournament championship. Loras (17-1-3), which tied with Wartburg and Luther during the Iowa Conference regular season, won the league tournament.
