Wartburg College’s Knightliters Jazz Band will showcase the vitality of big band jazz at its annual Autumn Jazz concert Saturday, Nov. 16.

Under the direction of Allan Jacobson, senior lecturer in music, the Knightliters will perform arrangements by jazz legends Neal Hefti, Ernie Wilkins, and Frank Mantooth at 8 p.m. during the free concert in McCaskey Lyceum.

Hefti composed the theme music for the 1960s’ “Batman” TV series and scored the 1968 film “The Odd Couple.” Wilkins was a jazz arranger best known for working with such famous band leaders as Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie and Tommy Dorsey, while Mantooth was a jazz pianist and arranger.

Alex Shockley, a sophomore from Cedar Falls, will join the Knightliters for a jazz vocal selection with the student-led 9th Street Jazz Band II.
