Dr. Del Doherty is the new president of the Wartburg College Alumni Board, the second former international student to hold the position and the first from Africa.

Doherty, a native of Sierra Leone in western Africa, is a 2006 Wartburg graduate who became the first person at the University of Minnesota to simultaneously earn a doctorate of pharmacy degree and a master’s degree in public health in 2010.

He is a resident of Blaine, Minn., a Twin Cities suburb, and a senior consultant with The Burchfield Group, which specializes in pharmacy benefit management.

Dr. Noel Florendo, a native of the Philippines and now a pathologist in Memphis, was the first former international student to be alumni board president.

Barbara Gamez Sims ’98, the new alumni board president-elect, also is involved in health care as a technology licensing manager at Mayo Clinic. She has a law degree from Marquette University Law School and resides in Rochester, Minn.

New members of the alumni board are:

• Trudie Goff ’85, a gifted specialist with the Loudon County (Va.) Public Schools, who resides in Herndon, Va.
• Kristin Huinker ’11, a development manager with Youth Emergency Services and Shelter in Des Moines, who resides in Ankeny.
• Meredith Keelan ’76, a teacher in the Van Vleck (Tex.) School District and chief of the Van Vleck Volunteer Fire Department, who resides in Van Vleck.
• Jerold Leichsenring ’98, an attorney and municipal judge in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., where he resides.
• Judy Nuehring, ’85, a homemaker and color guard coach at Glenbard South (Ill.) High School, who resides in Glen Ellyn, Ill.
• Trina McPeake ’97, a fifth-through-eighth grade instrumental music teacher and band director at North Cedar Middle School, who resides in Wheatland.
