Art Walk returns — Waverly’s eighth annual Art Walk will feature the works of more than 40 Midwest artists displayed in Kohlmann Park, along the Cedar River, Saturday, May 4, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The juried fine arts and crafts show — founded and directed by Jennifer Jones Ruiz ’10 — will include painting, basketry, metal sculpture, photography, jewelry and more. Damascus Road, a folk and bluegrass group, will perform from 1 to 3 p.m. Wartburg-Waverly Sports and Wellness Center staff will give yoga demonstrations every half hour between 10 a.m. and noon. The event also will have kids’ activities, food vendors, a musical petting zoo provided by the Wartburg Community Symphony Association and the Waverly-Shell Rock “Art Bus Gallery,” which displays K-12 student artwork.
Roberto Matus to speak at UNI — In continuation of Office of International Programs’ Diplomat Series, University of Northern Iowa will welcome Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Chile Minister Counselor Roberto Matus next month. Mr. Matus will give a lecture entitled Chile: a Road to Development on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. at Curris Business Building Room 109 (John Deere Auditorium) on the UNI campus. The lecture is free and open to the public and will be followed by Q&A.
