Wartburg College will receive 10 recycling bins to use primarily at outdoor events, thanks to a Keep America Beautiful and Coca-Cola Foundation program.

Wartburg was one of 156 Bin Grant recipients selected by Keep America Beautiful based on need, recycling experience and ability to sustain a program.

Anne Duncan, Wartburg sustainability coordinators, said the new bins, valued at $500, are easy to transport and store.

“This will allow us to more easily set up recycling at events around campus, mostly outside,” Duncan said. “Currently, we pull bins from other areas for large events like Homecoming. These new bins should save staff time as well as the muscle strain needed to move large bins around. Plus, they’re compact and will take little space when stored.”

“One of the main barriers to recycling is convenience. Providing a recycling bin helps communities overcome that barrier,” said Matthew M. McKenna, Keep America Beautiful president and CEO. “We are truly grateful for Coca-Cola’s support and commitment to recycling.”

“By increasing access to recycling today, we build sustainable communities for the future,” said Lori George Billingsley, vice president of community relations for the Coca-Cola North America Group.

The Bin Grant program has placed more than 29,000 recycling bins in more than 500 communities.
