Two Wartburg College community fairs will consolidate into one spring event focusing on health, wellness and sustainability.

The Community Health Fair on Saturday morning, April 27, will combine features of the Community Health and Wellness Fair, sponsored by the Wartburg-Waverly Sports and Wellness Center, Waverly Health Center and Hy-Vee, and the Go Green Fair, sponsored by the Wartburg Sustainability Office. It will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Wartburg-Waverly Sports and Wellness Center.

Now in its fifth year, the Health Fair traditionally attracts more than 500 area residents, offering free health screenings, a variety of booths staffed by health and wellness organizations and vendors, the first Farmers Market of the year, and supervised children’s activities.

Anne Duncan, environmental sustainability coordinator, hopes the former Go Green Fair will benefit from the popularity of the Health Fair, exposing more people to exhibits and demonstrations on energy efficiency, local foods and ways to reduce their impact on the environment.

“Our office can provide additional resources for the fair and a broader focus on how sustainability is an essential part of community health and wellness,” Duncan said.

Dawn Wiegmann, RN, director of wellness and health promotions at The W, said sign-up is now under way for this year’s fair. Businesses and organizations interested in participating can find an online registration form at www.the-w.org/fair.aspx or contact dawn.wiegmann@wartburg.edu.
