Dr. Karen Black, director of Wartburg College’s Kantorei chapel choir, has been named Paul Bouman Chapel Choir Conductor for the 32nd annual Lutheran Summer Music Academy and Festival.

Black will lead the choir, teach a church music elective class and serve on the worship team during the four-week residential musical training program, June 23-July 21, at Luther College in Decorah. She will be one of 34 LSM faculty artists — esteemed practicing professional musicians and academicians.

LSM serves more than 150 student musicians in grades 8-12 from across the United States and features three major ensembles — band, orchestra and choir — as well as a keyboard and organ program.

The choir, under Black’s direction, will lead the LSM Hymn Festival July 17.

Black is professor of music, college organist and Rudi Inselmann Endowed Professor of Organ at Wartburg. She teaches organ and church music, music theory and aural skills. Black has recently performed organ recitals in Eisenach, Germany; St. Philip’s Cathedral in Atlanta, and Kansas State University.
