The Wartburg Community Symphony and Wartburg Chamber Orchestra have received $4,500 in foundation grants.

Soo Greiman, director of the Max and Helen Guernsey Charitable Foundation of Waterloo, recently presented a $4,000 check to Dr. Daniel Kaplunas, Wartburg Community Symphony music director and conductor, to help fund three guest artists.

Daria Rabotkina, a piano soloist and winner of several international competitions and awards, performed the “Schumann Piano Concert” in October. Levon and Alexander Ambartsumian will perform the “Bruch Violin Concerto” and three contemporary pieces by Russian composers Feb. 9.

The Guernsey Charitable Foundation works in partnership with others to improve the vitality of the Cedar Valley community.

The Women’s Philharmonic Advocacy is providing a grant of $500 to support a Wartburg Chamber Orchestra and St. Elizabeth Chorale joint performance March 26 to celebrate Women’s History Month, featuring music by American composer Amy Beach.

Dr. Jane Andrews, professor of music and director of the St. Elizabeth Choir, worked with Kaplunas, an assistant professor of music, on the grant request.

“It is wonderful to see local and national organizations recognize the importance of what we do,” Kaplunas said. “Their financial support helps us maintain engaging and versatile programming.”
