The Waverly Chamber of Commerce Festival of Trees will open Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the Wartburg College Classroom Technology Center.

This is the second year Wartburg has hosted the event, which will run through Sunday, Dec. 16. Admission is free, and the display is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, featuring Christmas trees decorated by local businesses, individuals, community organizations, and college groups.

Campus organizations participating in the event include the Alumni Office, Marketing and Communication, the Center for Community Engagement, Dining Services, Phi Alpha Theta, the Wartburg Malaria Initiative, and Dr. Erika Lindgren, associate professor of history.

“Having the Festival of Trees at Wartburg makes it more accessible to students and the many visitors attending holiday events at the college, including Christmas with Wartburg, the Wartburg Community Symphony holiday concert, the Candlelight Vespers service and December Commencement,” said Linda Moeller, senior strategist in the Marketing and Communication Office, who serves as the college liaison for the event.

Several college groups also will participate in Christmas Greetings on Main from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in downtown Waverly. This year’s theme is “White Christmas,” with live window displays and other family-friendly festivities throughout the downtown area.

The Wartburg communication arts department and the Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center will organize live window displays, while Wartburg Dining Services will provide hot chocolate and holiday treats at one of several “hot spots.”
