Clarinetist Dan Friberg, a Minneapolis native who has performed in concert halls throughout Europe, will give a recital at Wartburg College Friday, Nov. 2.

Friberg will be perform in Orchestra Hall in Bachman Fine Arts Center at 7:30 p.m., accompanied by pianist Mary Jo Gothmann. Admission is free.

Friberg, the second chair and E-flat clarinetist of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra, has performed in orchestral, chamber and solo settings in Russia, France, Italy, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Belgium.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Music degrees at Yale University, studying with clarinet soloist David Shifrin, and his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Minnesota, studying with Burt Hara of the Minnesota Orchestra.

He was a fellow of the Belgian American Education Foundation in 2009-10, studying with Eddy Vanoosthuyse, Frank Coryn and Vincenzo Casale at the Royal Ghent Conservatory of Music in Belgium.

Friberg teaches clarinet at Minneapolis-area high schools and is co-manager of the printed music department at Groth Music Co. While in Belgium Friberg became interested in early clarinets and period performance, an expertise he continues to pursue.
