Prospective employers and job seekers will have a chance to meet and discuss opportunities for employment at the Waverly Area Job Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 12.

The event features two sessions to accommodate varied work schedules. The morning session will run from 9:30 to 11 a.m.; an afternoon session goes from 4 to 7 p.m.  The event is being held at Willow Lawn Mall near the Hawkeye Community College Waverly Outreach Center located at West Bremer Ave and 20th Street NW.  The event is free and open to the public.

“Workforce availability and job training are big concerns in Iowa. This job fair is our local effort to address this concern,” said Brent Matthias, director of the Waverly Area Economic Development Office.  “Our economic development website currently has ads for over 120 job openings in the Waverly area alone.  This event will give area employers the chance to talk about opportunities in their organizations and recruit potential new employees.”

Special focus will be on opportunities available in industrial, technical, trades, services, and health-care fields.  Exhibiters will include employers as well as organizations offering training and education.

Lead sponsors for this event are Hawkeye Community College, GMT Corporation, TDS Automation Inc., and Modern Builders.  Thanks to their support there are no fees for employers or job seekers who wish to participate in the job fair.  Other supporting sponsors include Waverly-Shell Rock Schools and DECA students, Wartburg College, Waverly Area Economic Development, City of Waverly, Waverly Chamber of Commerce, and Willow Lawn Mall.

Area businesses and industries interested in exhibiting at the job fair can register by contacting the Waverly Area Economic Development Office at 319-352-9210.
