Wartburg College has received a $50,000 grant from the Hearst Foundations to increase scholarship awards for transfer students.

The grant monies will be used to increase awards by $1,000 to transfer students who demonstrate need. Wartburg enrolls an average of nearly 40 new transfer students annually.

“With the increasing trend among students to ‘swirl’ — transfer from one or more institutions on their path to a bachelor’s degree — we want to make sure that Wartburg is affordable for transfer students we know will thrive here,” said Dr. Edith Waldstein, vice president for enrollment management.
Currently, transfer students who demonstrate financial need are eligible for a grant of up to $7,000 determined by need and grade point average as well as a scholarship of $8,500 to $12,000 based on a transfer’s grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
The Hearst Foundations were established in 1945 by publisher and philanthropist William Randolph Hearst and provide resources in education, health, culture and social service. A preference in the education scholarships is given to undergraduate students at medium-size private liberal arts colleges.
