English translation of Eisenach Online story (courtesy of Google and Dr. Kit Kleinhans):

Maren Hopkins, 21, and Daniel Hanson, 22, are guests in Eisenach for “two-and-a-half” (three) weeks. The two are students at Wartburg College, in Waverly, Iowa, one of Eisenach’s Sister Cities. “For both” (For Maren) it is the first visit to the home of the Wartburg Castle. Besides getting to know the city and its culture, the program for Maren Hopkins and Daniel Hanson also includes an internship.
In the coming weeks Maren Hopkins, who is studying public relations in the United States, will work at the Wartburg, joining in guided tours and assisting with the website among other things. For the 21-year-old this will be an interesting task: “I would like to know the culture of the city and look at how public relations works here in Germany.” Her good knowledge of German will help her. Maren studied German through the third semester level. Next year she will begin her final year at Wartburg College.

Daniel Hanson, who is studying theology, is particularly interested in church work in Eisenach. His placement will therefore be with different congregations in the city. Again, there will be no language barriers, because the 22-year-old has studied German for eight semesters. He is in his final year of college.

Both students are housed in the Deaconess Motherhouse.  The stay is supported by Wartburg College and by the Eisenach Sister City Association. Later on, Wartburg Radio will report on the students’ stay and their experiences in a special program.

The partnership between Waverly and Eisenach had its official beginning on Nov. 28, 1992. The 20-year anniversary will be celebrated in September in Eisenach, home of the Wartburg Castle.
