More than 30 artists from four Midwest states will display and sell their works during Art Walk, Waverly’s seventh annual juried fine arts and crafts show.

The Art Walk, established by Jennifer Jones Ruiz ’10, will be Saturday, May 5, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., in Kohlmann Park, downtown along the Cedar River. Art medias range from painting, basketry, metal sculpture, photography, jewelry, and much more.

Meanwhile, downtown merchants will be holding their annual “Moms on Main” retail event.

The Art Walk will feature live music for the first time. The six-person family mariachi band, Ameca, from Des Moines, will be playing authentic mariachi music in honor of the Mexican holiday, Cinco de Mayo, from noon to 2 to 3 p.m..

The judge for the jury part of the show is Arthur Frick, Wartburg College professor emeritus of art. Frick taught or studied in 27 countries and helped build the art department at Wartburg. He has judged the show since the first year. Cash prizes will be awarded for Best in Show and first-through-third places.

Returning to Art Walk is the Waverly-Shell Rock Schools’ “Art Bus” gallery, an onsite school bus filled with students’ artwork. Food vendors, wine/beer tasting and kids’ activities also will be available.

In case of poor weather, the event will be held in the Waverly-Shell Rock High School’s New Commons Lounge. Art Walk is co-sponsored by Waverly Leisure Services and the Waverly Chamber of Commerce. Art Walk is free and open to the public.
