The community can get tips on emulating Wartburg College’s energy-saving initiatives during a forum Wednesday, May 2.

The college is expected to realize an estimated $270,000 in annual energy savings thanks to $2.4 million — including an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant — invested in efficiencies. The project implementation began January 2011.

The Wartburg College Energy Efficiency Presentation, beginning at 2 p.m. in the Heritage Ballroom in Saemann Student Center, will include an overview of the improvements in water fixtures, automation, lighting and air-conditioning systems by Terry Rowe of Schneider Electric, the consultant on the project.

A panel discussion will follow with Rowe; Gary Grace, Wartburg vice president for administration; and John Wuertz, director of the campus physical plant, answering questions.

A 2:45 p.m. tour of the improvements will be available for those interested.

Grace and Wuertz are inviting interested community members to attend, including businesses that may be able to adopt similar efficiencies.

“As an ongoing partner with our community, we are inviting you to come learn what we have done, how it has saved us money on our utility costs and allow the opportunity to ask questions in the hope that you will find ways to save energy and money in your facilities,” Grace said.

Questions can be directed to Anne Duncan, Wartburg environmental sustainability coordinator, at anne.duncan@wartburg.edu or 319.352.8536.
