WARTBURG SCHOLARSHIP CLUB

For more than 50 years, the club has provided treats to Wartburg students and donated proceeds to a scholarship fund. The club provides scholarships of $1,000 each to at least five Wartburg students every year. To date, we have contributed approximately $140,000 in scholarships and have also established an endowed scholarship that makes at least one award of $1,000 per year.

Membership in the Wartburg Scholarship Club is open to area alumni, college staff and faculty and their spouses, and college retirees and their spouses. (Formerly known as the Wartburg Women’s Club, the group voted in 2019 to change its name and make membership gender-inclusive.) Become a club member, register for our Fall Social, or donate funds to our cause.

Membership dues are $15 per year (or $25 for a couple), and are waived for honorary/retired members if they wish. Dues go directly to purchasing items for Power Sacks and to the annual scholarship fund. In addition, members are encouraged to provide treats for the Scholarship Project (below).

Activities & Programs

FALL & SPRING SOCIAL GATHERINGS
The club annually hosts two events, one in fall and one in spring, at Greenwood (home of the college president) or on campus. Our 2023 Fall Social will be Saturday, Oct. 7, beginning at noon (before the away football game). We will enjoy lunch, a business meeting, and cheering on the Knights against Luther, for those who would like to stay and watch a livestream. Cost to attend is $10 per person, which includes meal and beverage. Please register in advance. Club members may also join interest groups that meet monthly, such as the Potluck Group and Salad Luncheons Group.

Treats - Scholarship Club

CAMPUS TREATS SCHOLARSHIP PROJECT
The club advertises the sale of cakes, brownies, cookies, cupcakes, bags of fruit or Power Sacks to families of Wartburg students, for special celebrations such as birthdays, holiday, or special events. More than 300 items are provided each year through this project, so it’s all hands on deck!

You are welcome to bake your own or purchase the items from a local business. Cake boxes, cake rounds, brownie/cookie/cupcake boxes, and fruit bags are available to club members at the Information Desk (first floor of Saemann Student Center), along with an orange card for the treat message. Club members deliver their items to the Information Desk on the first floor of Saemann Student Center, and the desk employee notifies the students about picking up their treat. Members not providing treats are encouraged to contribute $35 to the annual scholarship fund. Join the club to be part of the student treat project!

Wartburg Mailbox Bank - Scholarship Club

MAILBOX BANKS
Especially meaningful to alumni, the metal student mailboxes from the former Student Union (pre-2005) are “recycled” into a bank with a wooden case and key. Yes, we can even include your old box number from your years at Wartburg (we have the old student directories)! These make a wonderful gift, sure to bring a smile to any Knight. Cost is $50 each, and proceeds go toward student scholarships. Contact John Wuertz with questions and to place an order.

WARTBURG TREASURES
The Wartburg Scholarship Club often sells vintage and current Wartburg items donated by alumni and friends of the college at a booth during the Renaissance Faire over Homecoming & Family Weekend. All proceeds go to student scholarships. Have items to donate for a good cause? Contact Kim Folkers.
