More about Kyle Fleming

Kyle Fleming, MMT, MT-BC, is assistant professor of music therapy and clinical supervisor. He earned his bachelor’s degree in music therapy from Wartburg College in 2012, and his Master of Music Therapy degree from Augsburg University (Minneapolis, MN) in August 2023. His decade of clinical experience includes child and adolescent mental health, substance use disorders, and community music therapy. As clinical supervisor, Prof. Fleming oversees practicum placements of music therapy students; establishes and maintains relationships with various community organizations in Waverly, Waterloo, and Cedar Falls; and collaborates with adjunct music therapy faculty and site supervisors. Prof. Fleming also teaches courses related to musical and clinical foundations in music therapy and the use of music in medical and mental health settings. He also presents frequently on topics related to music therapy, trauma-informed care practices, culturally responsive musicking, and music therapy approaches with adolescents for community organizations and state, regional, and national music therapy conferences.

Outside of his academic work, Prof. Fleming is the founder of Fleming Music Therapy, a community-based music therapy practice focused on promoting mental and emotional wellness in all people through music. He also enjoys performing as a musician and magician, and attending music and theater productions on campus and in the community. He lives in Waverly with his spouse, Maghan; their daughter, Luna; and their pets, cats Loki and Jax, and pug Gabe.
