Isabella Hobson ’25 didn’t just study computer science at Wartburg — she turned her college experience into a career launchpad.

Hobson, the 2025 Outstanding Senior for computer science, discovered the opportunity to work part time at John Deere through the on-campus Career Fair.

“The Career Fair is an excellent opportunity for students to meet employers, network, and learn about different career paths they can pursue after college. It also allows students to make the necessary connections to obtain internships or jobs where they can apply the topics they learn in school and get hands-on experience,” Hobson said.

Hobson also volunteered at the Waverly Public Library and was on the Computer Science Club executive team, which helped develop her leadership skills and professional network. As she looks to the future, she knows she has the support of her Wartburg professors.

“The math, computer science, and physics department faculty not only assisted me in my coursework, they also were always there to answer questions. Specifically, Dr. (John) Zelle and Dr. (Terry) Letsche helped me grow as a student and develop my programming skills for my future career. Dr. (Rachel) Clark, through the honors program, challenged me to think deeply about my coursework and produce projects I was proud of,” she said.

As Hobson reflected on her time at Wartburg, she offered this advice to other students.

“Use your time at Wartburg to learn more about your passions and interests,” she said. “Join clubs, go to career fairs, and meet new people. The more you explore the opportunities provided to you at Wartburg, the more you can understand who you are as an individual and what you want to accomplish in your life.”
