The Wartburg College Castle Singers will perform a home concert Saturday, April 2.
The 4 p.m. concert in Wartburg Chapel is free and open to the public. Free-will donations will be accepted to support scholarships and future tours.
The Castle Singers, under the direction of Nicki Bakko Toliver, will perform an eclectic program ranging from Renaissance-era choral works to contemporary pop music including “Shakespeare Songs” by Matthew Harris, “Cry Out and Shout” and “Be Not Afraid” by Knut Nystedt, and the popular jazz standard “When I Fall in Love” arranged by Kirby Shaw.
“Our madrigals have been renovated by pairing 16th-century texts or compositional styles with 20th-century harmonic progressions and composers,” Toliver said.
The performance also will feature Eriks Esenvalds’ arrangement of “In My Little Picture Frame.” Esenvalds worked with the Castle Singers during a visit to campus earlier this year. They will perform “Silhouettes,” originally recorded by The Nylons, and “Cups (When I’m Gone)” from the movie “Pitch Perfect.”
Wartburg’s string trio, Trio Nova, also will perform with the Castle Singers.
